Camden: Police officer is recovering from a gunshot wound after being shot at point blank range Wednesday night. It happened around 10:15 p.m. near 9th and Chelton streets. Authorities said the first-year officer approached three men that he considered suspicious.

Essex County Prosecutor's Office spokeswoman Katherine Carter confirmed that it was a homicide but did not have further information. The shooting appeared to be an isolated incident, according to Belleville police. Police did not immediately release additional information.

A fire engulfed two homes early Tuesday morning in East Orange, damaging both. Officials said the fire began in a house in the 100 block of Hollywood Avenue and quickly spread to a second home. Neighbors said they could see flames shooting through the roof of the home where the fire originated.

One person is dead and several others were hospitalized after a multi-vehicle crash on Route 88, near the entrance to Ocean County Park, in Lakewood late Saturday, police said.
Weehawken: A Port Authority police officer was struck by a car near the New Jersey side of the Lincoln Tunnel early Saturday, an agency spokesman said. The officer, who suffered a head injury, was in stable condition at Jersey City Medical Center after the incident occurred around 6:30 a.m., according to police spokesman Joe Pentangelo.
