Police are investigating a home invasion in Union City. The incident happened in an apartment on the 500 block of 3rd Street Tuesday morning. Investigators say two suspects, believed to be a man and a woman, pushed down the woman who lived in the home.

Authorities say several people were hurt when at least six vehicles collided on a major highway in central New Jersey. The fiery crash occurred shortly before 6 a.m. Friday in the southbound lanes of Route 440 near the Interstate 287 split in Edison.

New technology is being used to help solve a three-year-old case involving a baby’s death in Farmingdale, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and state police announced Wednesday. The prosecutor and state police held a press conference to discuss a new DNA technique they're using in the case of a deceased baby whose remains were found at a recycling facility on Halloween night in 2014. Authorities said they believe the mother abandoned the baby there.

Linden, New Jersey shooting at 800 block of Cleveland Ave: 1 injured
The township suffered its sixth homicide of the year Saturday, Dec. 9, when Ahmad J. Carson, 33, of Newark, was shot and killed on Myrtle Avenue, shortly after 1 a.m. On Saturday, Dec. 9, Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly of the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit announced acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino and Irvington Police Director Tracy Bowers had revealed authorities were investigating an incident in which two males were shot, one fatally, early that morning in Irvington.
Police in Newark are investigating a suspicious package found in the 600-block of Delancey Street today.

Trenton, New Jersey shooting at 50 block of Asbury St: 1 killed
Crews battled a large house fire in Weehawken Saturday morning that took an extra effort to put out. The incident took place on Sterling Avenue. Weehawken Deputy Fire Chief Charles Thomas said chemicals burning in the home from paint cans made the situation hazardous. Ammunition was also reported in the building, but was not affected by the fire.
Crews responded to a house fire in Middlesex Friday night. It happened on the 500 block of Harris Avenue around 8 p.m. Multiple crews were forced to brave the frigid temps and snow while responding to the scene. No word yet on any injuries.

A possible child luring attempt in Howell this week is now under investigation, police said Thursday. The Howell Township Police Department said the incident happened just before 5 p.m. Tuesday on Pitch Pine Lane.
A second man has been convicted in the death of a woman buried alive in a shallow grave in New Jersey 3½ years ago. Jurors in Camden County deliberated for less than an hour Wednesday before convicting 39-year-old Carlos Alicea-Antonetti of first-degree murder, kidnapping, robbery and felony murder. Prosecutors said the jury’s finding of special circumstances means the defendant faces a mandatory life term.
