A closer look at the thick smoke and haze from the wildfire burning on Cannonball Road in Pompton Lakes. You can taste it in the back of your throat. Also seeing bits of ash falling from the sky. Road closed at Dupont place.
55 structures are threatened by the fire on Mountainside Drive and Cannonball Road. There are no evacuation orders – residents are asked to shelter in place and if they feel necessary, voluntarily evacuate. Structure protection is in place by local fire departments

Man killed in a hit-and-run in Midland Park, New Jersey on October 11, 2024. At approximately 7:09 p.m., Friday evening a fatal hit-and-run motor-vehicle accident transpired on Godwin Avenue at the intersection of Witte Drive. Police determined that the involved vehicle left the scene of the collision. The adult man was a pedestrian and was transported to the hospital with serious injuries where he was pronounced dead.
Crews battling Medford, NJ brush fire; 30 structures threatened
Two men sustained gunshot wounds in a shootout in Paterson, New Jersey. Paterson Police Department received information that two men, a 33-year-old from Paterson, and the second man, a 28-year-old from Paterson, were involved in a shoot-out in the area of Straight Street and Park Avenue. The 33-year-old man was struck in the head and throughout his torso while the 28-year-old man received non-life-threatening wounds. Both men were transported to the hospital for treatment. The 33-year-old man is currently listed in critical condition. The second man is in stable condition.
